The city of Genk (pop 65,691) has a diffuse structure, with several smaller centers connected by highways and separated by larger forested areas. The Boulevard of Europe is the main throughway of the areas that comes closest to qualifying as a city center. Our proposal won the competition and is now being elaborated. The project focuses on a greening strategy, and on a mobility concept. Different new bus and tram systems are combined. A new inter-modal station area, as well as a series of smaller transversal passages have been introduced. Where possible, new and old infrastructures are redesigned to disappear into a verdant natural order.
