NEW MEADOWLANDS – THE FINAL PROJECT FOR REBUILD BY DESIGN OF MIT CAU+ZUS+URBANISTEN

Project Update, 02.04.2014

On April 3th, the 10 teams will present their final design to the public in Jersey City. An expert jury will evaluate the proposals, and later this Spring the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will announce the winners. They will get the chance to implement the design, with disaster recovery grants from the U.S. government, as well as other sources of public and private- sector funding. MIT CAU + ZUS + URBANISTEN designed the New Meadowlands on the shores of New Jersey and New York. “Our vision includes a gradual conversion of substantial parts of the Meadowlands into a regional landscape infrastructural park that protects the edges from floods and rebuilds biodiversity lost over the past century; absorbs water; and hosts recreational, civic programs. Along the edges, a mix of new residential density and other uses could take advantage of the park as a civic amenity. This scenario will maximize benefits from the close proximity to Manhattan but keep the area attractive and desirable to a mix of audiences.” More on: http://www.rebuildbydesign.org/project/new-meadowlands/
